LEGO Creator Expert Chevrolet Camaro Z/28 rumoured for 2022 release

The next LEGO Creator Expert car will reportedly be a Chevrolet Camaro Z/28, which is said to be arriving on shelves later this year.

Promobricks has listed 10304 Camaro Z/28 among the LEGO for Adults launches in 2022, with a product number that slots between the also-rumoured 10303 Roller Coaster and 10305 Lion King’s Castle. There are precious few other details to go on at the moment, but Promobricks has listed a potential price tag of €159.99 for 1,456 pieces.

That would place the car roughly in line with predecessors like 10295 Porsche 911, 10265 Ford Mustang and even this year’s 10300 Back to the Future Time Machine. What’s less clear at this point is which version of the Camaro Z/28 the set could be based on, but a quick look at the rest of the Creator Expert car line-up suggests it’ll be the original 1967 model.

To that end, expect signature details like the classic dual-stripe design across its hood and boot, a replica of its V8 engine, and potentially even its red-stripe tyres to match what will presumably be a base red colour scheme. The muscle car would make a perfect companion to 2019’s 10265 Ford Mustang, a set itself inspired by a vehicle from the same decade.

Conceived as a ‘virtually race-ready’ version of the original Camaro, the first-generation Z/28 was designed primarily for competing in the Trans-Am series, and was considered a direct rival to the Ford Boss 302 Mustang. Only 602 original Z/28s were ever sold, which means you can expect to pay up to $221,000 for one today (according to MotorTrend). A LEGO version would be just a bit more affordable, then.

The LEGO Group does have an existing partnership with Chevrolet through the Speed Champions theme – including sets as recent as last year’s 76903 Chevrolet Corvette C8.R Race Car and 1968 Chevrolet Corvette – which may lend a little more weight to this rumour. For now, take it with the customary pinch of salt.

I like to think of myself as a journalist first, LEGO fan second, but we all know that’s not really the case. Journalism does run through my veins, though, like some kind of weird literary blood – the sort that will no doubt one day lead to a stress-induced heart malfunction. It’s like smoking, only worse. Thankfully, I get to write about LEGO until then.

Why Lego? The mustang is enough 1960’s muscle car we need. I hope this is not true.
