LEGO Creator Expert 10268 Vestas Wind Turbine officially announced

The LEGO Group has announced the release of Creator Expert 10268 Vestas Wind Turbine, which will be the first retail set to include sustainable elements.

Earlier this year, the LEGO Group began to talk up the new “plants from plants” sustainable elements. Now, to coincide with New York Climate Week, the company has announced that Creator Expert 10268 Vestas Wind Turbinefirst rumoured here at Brick Fanatics – will be the first product fans can buy that will include the elements.

It is a re-release, or more accurately updated version, of the decade old 4999 Vestas Wind Turbine set. That means this will be the first time that the set is widely available – the 2008 release was a specially produced item for Vestas, not a regular retail set. 10268 Vestas Wind Turbine will be available exclusively at shop.LEGO.com from November 23, priced at £159.99 / $199.99.

Vestas is the “world’s leading supplier of energy solutions”, having installed 65,000 wind turbines around the world, and has worked with the LEGO Group on ensuring the model’s design is accurate. One of the updates to the original model is that the Vestas service minifigures feature the company’s logo.

The set comprises of 826 pieces, that build a moving wind turbine using Power Functions pieces. The spruce tree is the element that is made from sustainable materials. Plastic used to produce the part is made from sugarcane, as part of the LEGO Group’s drive to only use plastic based on sustainable materials by 2030. The company’s other key environmental commitment acknowledged in this set is that through investment in wind power, the LEGO Group balances all of the energy used in the production process.

“We strive to make a positive impact on the environment and are committed to climate action and to use sustainable materials in products and packaging,” said Tim Brooks, Vice President, Environmental Responsibility at the LEGO Group. “This wind turbine celebrates our first steps in bringing these ambitions to life and we hope it will inspire builders to learn about renewable energy. In August we released the first LEGO elements made from plants and now our fans around the world can buy a LEGO set containing these unique elements.”

“Today, wind energy is the cheapest source of energy in many markets, which have made wind turbines a sustainability icon across the globe and we are proud to partner with the LEGO Group on this relaunch,” said Morten Dyrholm, Group Senior Vice President of Marketing, Communications and Public Affairs at Vestas. “The original Vestas wind turbine LEGO model was specially created for Vestas to promote wind energy to a small audience within energy and as such, today’s relaunch to the global LEGO community tells the story of how wind energy have gone from niche to mainstream, not just within energy but the entire world.”

LEGO Creator Expert 10268 Vestas Wind Turbine will be available in LEGO Stores and at shop.LEGO.com from November 23.
