LEGO DC Batman 76161 1989 Batwing unveiled

To mark DC’s annual Batman day, the LEGO Group has unveiled a massive new model inspired by Tim Burton’s Batman – 76161 1989 Batwing.

The LEGO Group is following up last year’s 76139 1989 Batmobile with 76161 1989 Batwing, recreating the second most memorable bat-vehicle from Tim Burton’s 1989 Batman movie. The 2,363 piece set measures 52cm long and 58cm wide. It can be wall mounted or placed on the buildable display stand.

Priced at £179.99 in the UK, $199.99 in the USA, 76161 1989 Batwing will launch on October 21.

Information on the previously rumoured set has now been released by the LEGO Group, with the press release promising a full interior to the detailed model, along with a removable canopy, aerodynamic flaps and fun surprises including a screen featuring the Joker’s gas balloons.

Three minifigures are included with the model – Batman, with 1989 cowl, the Joker in his black and white outfit and Jukebox Goon.

“The emblematic set truly takes fans on a journey, as they immerse themselves into Gotham city and get hands-on with the set, using Batman, The Joker and Boombox goon minifigures to relive their favourite moments from the film,” says LEGO Creative Lead Jesper C. Nielsen. “Fans can even create the infamous scene when The Joker barges in on the Dark Knight and utters his classic words, ‘have you ever danced with the devil in the pale moonlight?’”

As an 18+ set, it will feature “the new stylish packaging designed to reflect the sophisticated nature of the creative process,” the press release declares.
