LEGO designer reveals original concept for 40562 Mystic Witch GWP

The LEGO designer behind the upcoming 40562 Mystic Witch gift-with-purchase has revealed a concept sketch for the model.

Designs for new LEGO sets usually go through multiple development stages, from initial ideas and work-in-progress builds to refined models and the eventual finished product. Such is the case with the upcoming 40562 Mystic Witch, which will be available as a free GWP from October 14 to October 31 with purchases over £100 / $100 / €100.

The Creator 3-in-1 model was designed by George Gilliatt, who was also responsible for this year’s 11021 90 Years of Play set. Gilliatt has taken to social media to promote the Halloween-themed GWP, which arrives later this week. The designer revealed on his Twitter account just how much the model had changed from his original early sketch to the finished spooky model.

‘Here is one of my concept sketches of 40562 Mystic Witch,’ said Gilliatt. ‘In a lot of cases, we develop a LEGO model based on something that already exists, but in this case I got to design the character from scratch so doing some early character designs was very helpful!’

Indeed, the final look of 40562 Mystic Witch is surprisingly close to Gilliatt’s initial colour sketch, right down to the pumpkin and purple cat, with the latter being one of the set’s alternative builds.

I’m getting huge Gruntilda vibes from Banjo Kazooie everytime I see this figure, guessing this was a huge point of reference for this model
