LEGO double VIP points event rumoured for October

The LEGO Group is rumoured to be holding a double VIP points event later this month, offering the equivalent of 10% cashback on all purchases.

Instagram user exabrickslegogo_ reports (via brick_clicker) that double VIP points will return from October 11 to 17, which tallies with similar events from the past three years. It would be a surprisingly short window for the promotion, however, which has previously run for up to two weeks in October.

The loyalty program typically offers 5% back in points to spend on future purchases when shopping at LEGO.com or in LEGO Stores, but a double VIP points event would bring that up to the equivalent of 10% in cashback. Those points can also be spent on exclusive goodies at the VIP Rewards Centre, where they’ll often translate into even better bang for your buck.

In 2018, double VIP points was available from October 15 to 31; in 2019, the event ran from October 14 to 27, with a bonus window from October 4 to 6 exclusively for LEGO Star Wars sets; and in 2020, double VIP points could be earned across the entire portfolio from October 8 to 20.

Based on those promos, it’s likely that any October 2021 double VIP points event would be applicable across all purchases online and in-store – including all the new sets that have just launched this month. That presents a difficult decision for early adopters: buy now while stock is guaranteed, or wait until October 11, when the sets you’re after could be sold out?

For what it’s worth, the LEGO Group remains confident in its ability to meet demand through the Christmas shopping season, so it’s unlikely that many of its brand new sets will sell out immediately – although not impossible given 40499 Santa’s Sleigh is already temporarily out of stock in the US…

I like to think of myself as a journalist first, LEGO fan second, but we all know that’s not really the case. Journalism does run through my veins, though, like some kind of weird literary blood – the sort that will no doubt one day lead to a stress-induced heart malfunction. It’s like smoking, only worse. Thankfully, I get to write about LEGO until then.
