The LEGO Movie executive producer celebrates film’s 9-year anniversary

Following the ninth anniversary of the LEGO Movie yesterday, multiple people involved with the film have celebrated the anniversary of the film’s US release.

Today, February 7, 2023, is the ninth anniversary of the LEGO Movie with the film released a day earlier in some regions. However, the anniversary of the US launch has seen director Chris Miller and executive producer Matthew Ashton celebrate the date on social media.

Miller annually celebrates the anniversary on Twitter and shares a message thanks to those that supported the animated film and saw it as more than just a promotion of LEGO products. He also takes a moment to recognise the many artists who helped with the animation.

According to the Animal Logic website, over 350 artists, technicians and support staff spent over two years on the movie, which replicates the familiar stop-motion style that has become familiar territory for the LEGO Group and fans alike.

While the original LEGO movie is more than just an advertisement, it did have waves of models launched to accompany its release, including the massive 70810 MetalBeard’s Sea Cow and 70816 Benny’s Spaceship, Spaceship, SPACESHIP!, the latter of which may have helped to usher in the modern era of Classic Space

While the legacy of The LEGO Movie lives on, directors Chris Miller and Phil Lord have gone on to helm many projects including as producers of both upcoming Spider-Verse sequels
