LEGO finally explains 31203 World Map’s colour scheme

31203 World Map features a bright colour scheme and the reveal of another world-mapping LEGO set has explained why the creation is so colourful.

LEGO Ideas 21332 The Globe is launching soon, recreating the world in a circular set that is the first brick-built version of the classic mapping tool. However, the LEGO Group has another map model available now, with a different colour scheme that helps set the two builds apart.

While 21332 The Globe features a realistic design that aims to accurately depict the world the continents, with an extra oversized reference to 92177 Ship in a Bottle, 31203 World Map’s default colour scheme is that of a Bathymetric map, measuring the depth of oceans and representing landmasses with white and black tiles.

The use of bathymetry allows 31203 World Map to be a lot brighter and colourful, fitting in with the rest of LEGO Art while also making sure it differs enough from the newly revealed LEGO Ideas model.

Like any other LEGO Art set, 31203 World Map can be given an alternate design to depict the oceans in any way you see fit. However, the LEGO Group also have a collection of free instructions to highlight a smaller area of the world.
