LEGO for Adults 2022 Modular Building 10297 Boutique Hotel officially revealed

The LEGO Group has officially unveiled 10297 Boutique Hotel, the latest addition to the long-running LEGO for Adults Modular Buildings Collection.

Launching January 1, the 3,066-piece set is designed to celebrate the 15th anniversary of the modular building line-up, much in the same way that 10255 Assembly Square – which is still available today – was launched as a commemoration of the subtheme’s 10th anniversary in 2017.

In this case, that doesn’t mean another extended footprint, but it does mean plenty of Easter eggs, references and nods to the past 16 modular buildings – from 10182 Café Corner through 10278 Police Station, and everything in between. It’s also the second-largest modular building to date by piece count, behind only 10255 Assembly Square.

Split across five different sections, 10297 Boutique Hotel encompasses both its eponymous hotel and an art gallery, with three distinct floors and a terrace area above the gallery. The ground floor features a lobby for the hotel, while the first floor includes two different rooms and the second floor is home to an extensive penthouse suite.

There’s also a detailed interior, complete with a variety of different furniture across the hotel’s rooms, and what looks to be plenty of inventive building techniques spread across the model’s exterior. Perhaps the most distinctive architectural feature of 10297 Boutique Hotel, though, is its unique angled shape, which – as rumoured – is evocative of the Flatiron Building in New York City, as well as the Corinthia Hotel in London.

“It was really exciting to be working on 10297 Boutique Hotel and to have the opportunity to design this in celebration of 15 years of the collection,” said the set’s designer, Anderson Grubb. “When we approach the design for a modular building we are conscious of the previous sets and therefore want to create something that is new, that really complements the collection.

“I am really happy with the final design, the variety of intriguing building techniques and all the nods to the previous modular buildings.”

10297 Boutique Hotel measures 33cm tall, 25cm wide and 25cm deep – on a baseplate of 32×32 studs – and includes seven minifigures. It’ll be available to purchase from January 1, 2022 for £174.99 / $199.99 / €199.99. I like to think of myself as a journalist first, LEGO fan second, but we all know that’s not really the case. Journalism does run through my veins, though, like some kind of weird literary blood – the sort that will no doubt one day lead to a stress-induced heart malfunction. It’s like smoking, only worse. Thankfully, I get to write about LEGO until then.
