LEGO Friends is entering its 10th year of friendship this year and getting ready to commemorate the past years of mini-dolls and models with a celebratory creation, the first look at concept art for the original theme and a statement on how realistic LEGO Friends has become since its launch.
“LEGO Friends is one of our most beloved franchises and is a culmination of four intense years of anthropological research,” comments Rosario Costa, Design Director, the LEGO Group. “Thousands of girls and their parents worldwide participated in intensive research that validated the desire for more realistic details, accessories, animal nurturing, friendship, interior building and role play opportunities in a LEGO offering.
“From the very beginning, the focus was to build a solid foundation for a healthy, long-term sustainable business that would help invite more children into LEGO play and I’m incredibly proud to say that we have successfully accomplished this.”
The first 2022 wave of LEGO Friends sets out now includes 41695 Pet Clinic, 41697 Turtle Protection Vehicle, 41700 Beach Glamping, 41701 Street Food Market, 41702 Canal Houseboat, 41704 Main Street Building, 41707 Tree-Planting Vehicle and 41703 Friendship Tree House. That last model was designed to reference the past decade of LEGO Friends, with secrets to find throughout.
One of the most recent changes to Friends has been an increase in diversity with the latest range featuring the most male characters to date, as a way for the LEGO Group to respond to concerns of gender bias.
