LEGO Friends’ relaunched wave looks similar to its first

LEGO Friends is relaunching in 2023 with new characters, a time jump, and sets similar to its first, but with evolved designs and techniques.

In 2023, the following six LEGO Friends sets are launching on January 1 as part of the first relaunch for LEGO Friends after 10 years since its initial wave of models.

However, looking closely at the 2023 LEGO Friends models reveals several similarities to the first wave, at least in subject selection as their designs have a few differences that showcase how much the theme has changed over the past decade.

Here’s a look at four of the LEGO Friends 2023 sets compared to similar builds from the 2012 range.

4 – Animal care services

In 2012, animal care in Heartlake City was available at 3188 Heartlake Vet, featuring a mix of blue, tan, pink and green in its design. It cared for multiple kinds of animals but the closest model from the 2023 wave is 41727 Dog Rescue Center. Despite not being exactly the same, it uses a similar colour scheme with the blue roofs matching between them

3 – Places to eat

While one is in the park and the other is downtown, 3061 City Park Café and 41728 Heartlake Downtown Diner look exceedingly similar. Both have a striped roof, floor-to-ceiling curved windows, a large sign in the middle and an additional seating area. The detail on 41728 Heartlake Downtown Diner is superior compared to the 2012 creation, though it holds up well after 10 years.

Houses in Heartlake City have changed over the past decade too with 3315 Olivia’s House appearing to feature less detail and shaping when pictured next to 41730 Autumn’s House, the large LEGO Friends house for 2023. The smaller 2023 house set, 41724 Paisley’s House is closer in design, though is a much smaller size and may not be as comparable.

3187 Butterfly Beauty Shop was bringing new styles to mini-dolls in Heartlake City in 2012 but now, 41743 Hair Salon is coming in 2023 to fulfil that need. These two builds have more differences than most on this list with the focus on unusual transparent elements moved from the front with the short tunnel to the roof with skylights.
