More LEGO ICONS 10305 Lion Knights’ Castle secrets revealed

With 10305 Lion Knights’ Castle already available to VIP members, the massive LEGO ICONS set continues to reveal its many secrets.

LEGO VIP members were given early access to 10305 Lion Knights’ Castle this week, with the 90th Anniversary set not due for a wider launch until August 8. The LEGO ICONS model sees a welcome return of the Classic Castle theme, with a huge 4,514-piece set that’s fully covered in our in-depth review right here.

10305 Lion Knights’ Castle also contains nods to many LEGO Classic Castle sets from yesteryear and even a link to the upcoming LEGO Collectible Minifigures 71034 Series 23. In addition, a deep dive into the model has revealed even more secrets, now that the set is finally available to some lucky fans.

For starters, a quote on page 253 of one of the included instruction books states, ‘So lovely to see the banner of the House of Lionne flying in the breeze! Now all will know the ruler of these lands.’ This would seem to suggest that the Lion Knights are actually part of the House of Lionne, with their leader being the queen, or Lady Lionne.

Speaking of the Queen, another quote reveals a link to a Classic Castle theme villain. When building the Queen’s bedroom, a message on page 176 of the instruction book says, ‘What’s this odd letter here on the table, and with Lord Basil’s seal on it!!’ This is a reference to Basil the Bat Lord, leader of the evil Fright Knights faction that appeared in such sets as 2539 Flying Machine and 2540 Catapult Cart.

Finally, 10305 Lion Knights’ Castle also confirms that two of the theme’s magical characters are in fact related. A quote from Majisto the Wizard on page 17 of the instruction book mentions, ‘Yon cart is drawn by oxen? An oddity as this reminds me of Cousin Willa’s windship.’ This statement is a nod to Willa the Witch, the true leader of the Fright Knights who appeared in 2872 Witch and Fireplace and 6031 Fright Force. As rival magic users, this adds another fascinating layer to the Classic Castle theme, one that we’d definitely like to see expanded in any potential future sets.

LEGO ICONS 10305 Lion Knights’ Castle is available for VIP members to purchase now, priced at £344.99 / $399.99 / €399.99. The set will then receive a wider release for everyone else from August 8.
