LEGO Ideas 40448 Vintage Car appears in LEGO store, may be coming soon

LEGO Ideas 40448 Vintage Car is apparently in LEGO Stores already, as an image of the finished set has appeared online.

We’ve already seen the fan-designed model’s box art, but the poor quality of that image made it difficult to determine any details. Fortunately, an image of the final set has now made its way online via what looks to be either a LEGO Store or a LEGO Certified Store.

The photo (via Brick Finder) gives us a much better look at how the LEGO Group has turned LEGO Ideas user Versteinert’s ‘Aedelsten deluxe’ concept into an official set. As predicted, the chrome elements have been swapped out for more cost-effective light grey, but everything else seems true to the original design. The only hugely noticeable difference is that the surfboard doors now sit slightly lower on the sides of the car.

Versteinert’s contest entry took pole position in 2019’s LEGO Ideas Vintage Car fan vote, winning by a landslide. It’s thought that their design will be a gift-with-purchase in January, with a required spend of €85 across any LEGO products. If that is the case, you can expect parity in GBP and USD, with a threshold of £85 / $85.

We’ll have to wait for official confirmation from the LEGO Group to find out for sure, but given the model is clearly sitting in a LEGO retail outlet, it can’t be too far away.

I like to think of myself as a journalist first, LEGO fan second, but we all know that’s not really the case. Journalism does run through my veins, though, like some kind of weird literary blood – the sort that will no doubt one day lead to a stress-induced heart malfunction. It’s like smoking, only worse. Thankfully, I get to write about LEGO until then.
