LEGO Ideas announces LEGO Typewriter set

It is the day for new LEGO Ideas set announcements, with Typewriter confirmed for an official set release.

Half of the first ever winning LEGO MASTERS team, Steve Guinness included a typewriter as part of his build in the show’s final episode. The enthusiastic builder built a new version with a cranking mechanism and submitted it to LEGO Ideas, where it reached 10,000 votes and went ahead to the official LEGO review panel.

LEGO Ideas Design Manager Samuel Johnson and Engagement Manager Hasan Jensen have now announced that it will be released as an official set. It should make a suitable companion piece for the Player Piano, which was announced last year.

“My hope is that it is something totally different from anything that LEGO has ever done before, it showcases that fact that you really can make anything out of LEGO and it will hopefully bring nostalgia to adult fans like me, and wonder and curiosity to younger fans who might not have ever seen a real typewriter,” Steve told LEGO Ideas in a recent interview.

Functional, non-minifigure scale sets have appeared a few times in LEGO Ideas, with 21315 Pop-up Book and 21305 Maze two past examples.
