By Toutatis! LEGO Ideas Asterix and Obelix project gains 10,000 supporters

An Asterix and Obelix LEGO Ideas project has made it to 10,000 supporters, with no cauldron or menhir mishaps in sight.

The project, created by Ganpat the Celt, is the second attempt at getting the LEGO Group to create an official Asterix and Obelix set. That was back in 2020, and the new proposal is based on newer Asterix and Obelix media (such as an upcoming comic album and mini series) rather than some of the past adaptations of the story of the indomitable Gauls.

With features like a quarry, customisable huts, and even a light-up fire under Getafix’s magic cauldron, as well as many of the iconic characters in minifigure form, plenty of long-time Asterix fans will recognise most if not all of the references to the original stories as well as what will come through in later adaptations.

Other notable characteristics include the larger buildable wild boar, and Obelix having alternate legs so that he’s able to carry his beloved menhirs from the quarry. There’s also a merchant with a hay cart, a small waterfall, and Obelix’s little friend Dogmatix the dog (also known as Idéfix, depending on which translation you’ve read).

The project will now head into the review stage along with the rest of this round’s current LEGO Ideas submissions, and depending on the LEGO Group’s decision could potentially be made into an official LEGO set.
