LEGO Ideas Grand Piano set teased

The LEGO Ideas fan submission that took the internet by storm, Playable Piano, is about to be revealed to fans around the world.

A full product reveal for the LEGO Ideas Grand Piano is imminent, a tweet from the official account confirms. A small section of the model is revealed in animated segment, followed by the text ‘Coming soon from LEGO Ideas’.

To replicate what made the product idea so popular, the LEGO design team will need to have incorporated some real functionality into the model – and this tease suggests they have achieved just that. The fan design was dreamed up by Donny Chen, who managed to get 10,000 fellow LEGO fans to support it, before the LEGO Group approved it to become an official set.

“As I wanted to make the model work as close to a real piano as possible, there were many challenges I encountered during the design process. Keyboard mechanism, adjustable bench, working damper, pedals and the piano player function – all these features needed to be recreated with very precise brick placements, especially in this scale,” Donny said, explaining his design process.

Three new LEGO Ideas products were announced recently – Home Alone, Seinfeld and Typewriter. The sets will be released sometime in 2020 or 2021.
