76090 Mighty Micros: Star-Lord vs. Nebula
This Marvel Super Heroes Mighty Micros set sees Star-Lord take on Nebula in his Milano inspired ride
With the Mighty Micros line having proved it has some legs, albeit short ones, this year’s offerings includes a wider range of characters from both the Marvel and DC universes. One franchise that has become wildly popular over the last few years is Guardians of the Galaxy, represented here by Peter ‘Star-Lord’ Quill and Nebula in 76090 Mighty Micros: Star-Lord vs. Nebula.
Star-Lord is an obvious choice, while Nebula is more interesting given the events of the second film. Still, it’s a great pairing, and both figures look quite good. Quill sports a two sided head, one side with his face, and the other with his mask. The ships represented are great choices as well.
There seems to be two schools of thought when it comes to the design of the Mighty Micros. The vehicles seem to be either literal representations of ships or other items from the respective property, or they are based around the personality/abilities of the character. The latter suffers from mixed results, as many of those designs fall a bit flat in the aesthetics department. The Milano however, is a terrific example of the former type. It sits right up there with Thano’s ride as one of the more interesting and well designed vehicles. The scaled down chibi cuteness is hard to resist. In this respect, it has more in common with the similarly themed Star Wars Microfighters line than other Mighty Micros.
Nebula pilots a rendition of a Kree fighter ship. This model is admittedly a bit more disappointing. The source material is not that interesting to begin with, so this stripped down version has even less to offer. It is worth noting though that there are some interesting parts in use – particularly the bar holder with handle. It is making an increased number of appearances in sets, though it is still not tremendously common. The low price point of the set is an enticing means of snagging two of this remarkably useful part.
With one hit and one near miss in the set, this box is still worth picking up – particularly at a discount.
