Did LEGO Marvel 76178 Daily Bugle hint at Spider-Man: No Way Home?

LEGO Marvel 76178 Daily Bugle was packed full of Spider-Man references, but were they hinting at future movie crossovers?

Any knowledgeable Spider-Man fan will have recognised the cameos and subtle references that were packed into virtually every other brick of 76178 Daily Bugle. Now that we’ve seen the trailer for Spider-Man: No Way Home, it might have been laying the groundwork for the third film in Tom Holland’s trilogy. Warning: spoilers ahead for the film teaser, so we advise going to watch that first, or click on the video link below.

There were plenty of familiar faces to spot in the three-minute trailer. The audience came face to face with Doc Ock, heard the familiar laugh of the Green Goblin, and some suspect they even saw glimpses of Electro, Sandman, and Lizard. It seems Spider-Man might be facing the Sinister Six in the upcoming film, but we think we’ve seen a similar array of villains in an existing LEGO Marvel set.

LEGO Marvel 76178 Daily Bugle featured minifigures of Doctor Octopus, Green Goblin, Mysterio, and Sandman, all of whom have been members of the Sinister Six at one time or another in the comics. Plus, if rumours of a Spider-Man multiverse crossover are true for No Way Home, the appearances of Miles Morales, Spider-Gwen, and Spider-Ham also make a lot more sense.

Of course, these inclusions might just be a love letter to the various plots of Spider-Man from over the years. We’ll have to wait until we see the movie in full in December, but it’s entirely possible the LEGO Group included some forward-thinking details to keep us finding more and more references in 76178 Daily Bugle for months and even years to come.
