LEGO MASTERS USA contestants meet with psychiatrists

Contestants on LEGO MASTERS USA get to meet with a psychiatrist as they leave the competitive television series.

Reality television has come under criticism over the past year for not offering suitable support for those who participate on the shows. A few high profile suicides have been linked to series such as Love Island, leading to the industry working hard to ensure that support is in place for those who choose to participate in such series.

In an interview with Vulture, LEGO MASTERS USA Kara discussed her time on the series and mentioned that there the opportunity to meet with a psychiatrist when she and Jessie left the show: “Right afterward, you have to go in and you talk to them. Jessie was like, ‘Oh, it was a great experience. It was fun,’ and I’m like [heaving sob noises], ‘I’m gonna be okay!’”

She explains that there is a lot of pressure appearing on LEGO MASTERS:
“But the show also gets surprisingly intense! You have to move these huge elaborate builds that can fall apart at the last second. And that is what ended up causing your departure from the show.

“Right. Here you are, you’re dying inside, all the cameras come over to you, and I’m like, ‘Oh God, please don’t let me say a bad word. Please let me look like this is such a fun experience!’ And after [getting eliminated], you meet with a psychiatrist, and I’m crying hysterically, and she’s like, ‘You know, you realize there’s life after this.’ I’m like, ‘I don’t know about that!’”

The next episode of LEGO MASTERS will air in FOX in the USA on Wednesday, March 25 at 9.00pm ET/10.00pm PT.
