LEGO Monkie Kid to continue with three more sets

More LEGO Monkie Kid sets are on the way, with 80014 Sandy’s Speedboat, 80015 Monkie Kid’s Cloud Roadster and 80016 The Flaming Foundry expected this year.

Launched a few weeks ago, LEGO Monkie Kid takes a beloved Chinese myth and gives it a LEGO twist, following the adventures of Monkie Kid and his friends as they attempt to live up to the legendary Monkey King and defeat the Bull Demon.

With a huge launch wave, fans would have been forgiven for assuming that was everything for 2020 – but Brickset has discovered information on the Malaysian version of LEGO.com confirming that  80014 Sandy’s Speedboat, 80015 Monkie Kid’s Cloud Roadster and 80016 The Flaming Foundry are on the way too. There are no product images yet.

An additional set also listed on the website is part of the BrickHeadz series, 40381 Monkey King.

In a recent interview, Design Manager Dennis Fong talked about the positive reaction to the theme: “We felt that we hit something really big when we had this concept of the Monkey King. Seeing all the energy from the kids, the parents, how they could instantly recognise it because we had a lot of key iconic elements in there. And, you know, we didn’t need to tell a new story. We had the old story as a foundation for us to build upon.”
