The Brick Fanatics expert eye is cast over The LEGO NINJAGO Movie 41487 Lloyd to determine if he is 'ninja-go' or ninja-go-buy-something-else-instead Price: £9.99 / $9.99 / €9.99  Pieces: 102 Available: Now Lloyd Garmadon is the lead character in The LEGO NINJAGO Movie, voiced by Dave Franco. As the main character in the story it is fitting that he is the first – and currently only – ninja to be given the BrickHeadz treatment. Lloyd started off life as a minifigure, and has now taken the jump to become another type of LEGO character. Lloyd is presented here in his ninja outfit, and looks fantastic. The designer has definitely put all 102 pieces to good use and created a rather satisfying version of the green ninja to build. Following in the same building steps as most of the BrickHeadz, you start with the torso which includes a smartly printed 1x4 black brick with a very detailed design for the front. On first glance you only notice the gold crest each side, along with the green and gold collar, but in the right light you will notice lots of tiny black diamonds which really create a nice illusion of texture. The back also has a printed 1x4 brick continuing with the textured diamond pattern and a green symbol matching the one found on the back of the Lloyd minifigure. Add the arms on the side and it’s on to the head. The face makes use of green printed tiles for the eyes as opposed to the usual black ones, to match the on-screen character. These eyes are currently exclusive to this set in this colour. If you are one for buying LEGO sets to part out and use the elements in MOCs, this may have appeal to you. [gallery columns="4" size="medium" ids="30148,30151,30152,30149"] Whilst it may not be the most complicated or technical build you’ll ever come across, I found the bandana around the top of 41487 Lloyd’s head deeply satisfying where the corners curve round and join at each side, giving it a nice smooth finish. The front of his bandana also features a printed gold kanji-esque symbol, that does not correspond to any of The LEGO NINJAGO Movie alphabet. I did find it slightly odd that the top of the head still shows the 4x4 plate in all its studded glory when this could easily have been smoothed over with curved slopes, thankfully this would be a simple mod to add. I imagine the designer’s hands were tied with piece count restrictions here. Once the legs are in place, attach Lloyd’s tasselled Dao sword to his clip hand, build a simple 6x6 base plate stand, with the same ‘exclusive’ printed tile we’ve seen on the Star Wars BrickHeadz – pop him on and you’re done. If you’re a fan of The LEGO NINJAGO Movie or BrickHeadz in general, then this is an easy purchase for you. It’s a quick build, good piece to price ratio and rendered as closely to the original character as I think you are likely to get. All in all, a worthy addition to the series.
