LEGO Disney minifigures – the wish upon a star list

With LEGO Ideas Steamboat Willie expected soon, and the excellent execution of the Disney series of LEGO Collectible Minifigures, Brick Fanatics picks out a dozen characters who fans would love to own

When it comes to Disney, the LEGO Group has an awfully long list of characters to draw from. The Disney series of LEGO Collectible Minifigures proved to be incredibly popular, but barely scratched the surface – fans have been hoping for a follow-up series ever since. Having been a huge fan of the House of Mouse for a long time, I have got my own ideas about who I would love to see immortalised in LEGO form. If I could wish upon a star, this would be the dream dozen…

Mickey Mouse as The Sorcerer’s Apprentice (Fantasia)

Fantasia is one of Disney’s finest works. It is their longest animated feature, the American Film Institute voted it the fifth greatest animated film of all time and it changed the way Mickey Mouse was drawn, introducing pupils, a shorter nose and the now iconic white gloves. A minifigure featuring Mickey in his Sorcerer’s Apprentice robes could utilise the curved slopes we saw in the Harry Potter Collectible Minifigures series – and a bucket and mop would make for excellent accessories.

Snow White (Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs)

On the subject of classic Disney films, we should mention the first full length animated feature, Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. While there is a mini-doll version available in the Juniors 10738 Snow White’s Forest Cottage set, a minifigure that again takes advantage of the curved slope piece would be ideal. A poison apple would be the most appropriate accessory, with perhaps a cute critter borrowed from Friends too.

Moana (Moana)

Another much loved character, this time from the very modern era of Disney, is Moana. Her grass skirt would make for a lovely cloth piece. Flowers in her hair, the ‘Heart of Tafiti’ and a Hei Hei chicken could all feature as accessories.

Elsa and Anna (Frozen)

Is there a more iconic and popular modern Disney film than Frozen? That’s a rhetorical question. The Snow Queen and Princess were left out of the first series of Collectible Minifigures, so it would be great to see them turn up soon. They will probably appears as mini-dolls again in the Frozen 2 sets, but for most LEGO fans, only a minifigure will really do.

Winnie the Pooh (The Adventures of Winnie the Pooh)

The silly old bear created by A.A. Milne is one of Disney’s most beloved characters, even having his own star on the Hollywood walk of fame. The LEGO Group has released a DUPLO range based on the characters from the Hundred Acre Wood but a minifigure, complete with honey pot accessory, would be ridiculously adorable.

Tigger (The Adventures of Winnie the Pooh)

Accompanying Pooh Bear would be the “one of a kind” Tigger. He is another immensely popular character, who was even front and centre in his own movie. It could be argued that Piglet would be a more logical choice to partner Pooh, but Tigger’s distinctive orange and black markings would make for a very visually striking minifigure.

Mowgli (The Jungle Book)

The Jungle Book is such a classic, full of memorable songs and characters, that it’s simply crying out for some LEGO minifigures. Mowgli would be very unique, a cloth piece mimicking his red trunks could look quite effective. He would be very light on accessories so perhaps could come with Kaa the snake, similar to Nagini who was included with Voldemort.

Baloo (The Jungle Book)

Who better to accompany Mowgli than his best friend Baloo? I would imagine a very unique mold would be needed to recreate the lovable and laid back bear but it could look amazing. I’d love to see him with a prickly paw-paw accessory.

Scrooge McDuck (Duck Tales)

Not every minifigure has to come from Disney’s feature films. Some of their most beloved characters made their first appearances in other forms of media. Scrooge McDuck first appeared in a 1947 comic book and was made famous in the television show Duck Tales. His top hat, jacket and spats would be an excellent design choice. Just think of all the money bags he would come with…

Chip n’ Dale Rescue Rangers (Chip ‘n Dale: Rescue Rangers)

Two more characters who increased their fame through a television series are the chipmunk duo, Chip and Dale. Originally appearing in 1943, their first three short films were nominated for Academy Awards – but it wasn’t until 1989’s Rescue Rangers debuted that their popularity really soared. Chip’s fedora and leather bomber jacket and Dale’s Hawaiian shirt would look fantastic in minifigure form. And yes, this list has 14 characters on it, not 12 – but some duos cannot be split up.

Robin Hood (Robin Hood)

The 1973 Disney version of Robin Hood was one of my favourites growing up – and, no, I am not that old! I think a moulded head piece similar to the Cat Costume from Collectible Minifigures Series 18 would work wonderfully, and the LEGO Group obviously has a ton of suitable accessories in the back catalogue.

Wart/Arthur (The Sword in the Stone)

I’m getting slightly more obscure with my final choices but The Sword in the Stone was another childhood favourite that is fondly remembered. I can picture the minifigure now with flowing red robes and a Sword in the Stone accessory. If the LEGO Group is feeling particularly generous they could even throw in Merlin in his owl form, much like Hegwig appeared with Harry Potter.

So that’s my list of my most wanted Disney minifigures – I wonder if any will make it to release? Share your favourite Disney characters who should become Disney minifigures with Brick Fanatics on Facebook and Twitter.
