LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga may trigger Mark Hamill

One of LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga’s comedy moments won’t sit nicely with Luke Skywalker actor Mark Hamill, who says the scene makes him ‘cringe every time I see it’.

LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga is a new video game that takes us back into the Star Wars universe, albeit one built from the plastic pieces we’re familiar with. LEGO games (especially the ones produced by TT Games) are renowned for their humorous takes on the source material. The Skywalker Saga is no exception, recreating many pivotal scenes with a more light-hearted approach.

One scene that’s popped up in early coverage of the title comes from A New Hope, and shows Luke Skywalker looking down the emitter end of a lightsaber. A recent story from The Hollywood Reporter suggests that this references a old meme, mocking Luke’s careless handling of a deadly weapon. It also suggests Mark Hamill – famous for portraying Luke – will be unimpressed by its inclusion.

In a tweet from 2021, Hamill claims to find the meme cringeworthy. Reportedly the scene wasn’t filmed as part of the story: it’s just an on-set production still, which might explain why Alec Guinness is so unconcerned.

Does the scene reference this meme, or is it just a coincidence of TT Games’ humorous storytelling? Hard to say, but we find it pretty amusing either way.
