LEGO Star Wars and BOOST scoop Toy of the Year awards

The LEGO Group took home three awards at the Toy of the Year awards in New York, with LEGO Star Wars and LEGO BOOST both winning themes.

To coincide with New York Toy Fair, the toy industry held the Toy of the Year awards to recognise the best products and do some back slapping. The LEGO Group took away three awards, two for LEGO Star Wars and one for LEGO BOOST.

The overall Construction Toy of the Year was awarded to LEGO Star Wars 75187 BB-8, a deserving winner that was awarded 4.6 stars when reviewed by Brick Fanatics.

Another set that very much deserves some kind of recognition, as if selling out within 12 hours despite being the most expensive LEGO set is not recognition enough, is Star Wars 75192 Millennium Falcon. The Ultimate Collector Series behemoth received the Speciality Toy of the Year award.

No doubt helped by all of the buzz that was generated around it launch, the Tech Toy of the Year went to LEGO BOOST 17101 Creative Toolbox.

Hasbro, the LEGO Group and other licensees may find some in humour in the License of the Year winner – the award was given to Star Wars, which the judges clearly felt should not be hampered by the franchise’s well documented recent under performance when it comes to licensed merchandise.
