LEGO Star Wars: Obi-Wan Kenobi sets confirmed

Disney has confirmed that at least one LEGO Star Wars set based on the Obi-Wan Kenobi limited series is on the way – and will likely be revealed later this month.

Just like the Mando Monday product showcases tying into The Mandalorian, Lucasfilm will debut ‘Obi-Wan Wednesdays’ (alliteration is key to the timing of these events) on May 25, two days before the series premieres with a double episode on Disney+. The weekly programme will highlight products inspired by Star Wars: Obi-Wan Kenobi, including action figures, toys, apparel, books, comics, accessories and more.

Among the brands featured will be Hasbro, Mattel, Funko and the LEGO Group, confirming that rumours of multiple sets based on the series are at least partly true, as indicated by recent retailer listings. At the moment, three different sets are said to be on the way for Obi-Wan Kenobi: a BrickHeadz two-pack, a spaceship and a location-based playset.

The latter of those has a working title of ‘Obi-Wan Darth Vader’, suggesting it will depict some sort of showdown between the two characters. While the series’ two trailers have so far resisted teasing any confrontations between Vader and Kenobi, the key art for merchandise inspired by the show does show the former Master and Padawan clashing ‘sabers.

We don’t yet know in which episode of Obi-Wan Wednesdays LEGO sets will feature, but there’s a good chance it could be the first one. Two days later, at Star Wars Celebration, the LEGO Group will host a panel titled ‘The Summer of LEGO Star Wars’, which seems bound to feature at least one set from Obi-Wan Kenobi (given it’s happening on the series’ premiere date).

Whether that set – or those sets – will be unveiled first through Obi-Wan Wednesdays or at Star Wars Celebration is up in the air, but at this point it’s hard not to imagine we’ll see at least one LEGO product based on the series before the month is out. The first episode of Obi-Wan Wednesdays will drop at ObiWanWednesdays.com at 6pm UK time on May 25.

I like to think of myself as a journalist first, LEGO fan second, but we all know that’s not really the case. Journalism does run through my veins, though, like some kind of weird literary blood – the sort that will no doubt one day lead to a stress-induced heart malfunction. It’s like smoking, only worse. Thankfully, I get to write about LEGO until then.
