LEGO Star Wars The Mandalorian helmet rumoured for 2022

We all knew it was going to happen eventually: The Mandalorian is rumoured to be joining the LEGO Star Wars Helmet Collection in 2022.

In what feels like especially low-hanging fruit for the theme’s collection of buildable helmets – which also includes the likes of 75276 Stormtrooper Helmet and 75304 Darth Vader Helmet – Instagram user greekbricks claims that Din Djarin’s silver bucket will be coming next year.

Given the subject matter, it’s safe to expect essentially a straight recolour of 75277 Boba Fett Helmet, only minus the rangefinder. What’s less certain – should this rumour prove true – is whether the model will consist of entirely grey elements, or whether the LEGO Group will incorporate drum-lacquered silver pieces to reflect the character’s shiny helmet.

We already have precedent for a blend of metallic and flat colours in 76191 Infinity Gauntlet, although that set is arguably best viewed from only one side, where any Mando helmet would need to look great from all angles – and the sheer number of drum-lacquered silver pieces required to achieve that effect could rule it out altogether.

We’ll hopefully find out for sure next year, when the next batch of LEGO Star Wars helmets arrives on shelves (presuming there’s more than one on the way, of course). This rumour would also mark the Helmet Collection’s first departure from the original trilogy, potentially opening the door to more sequel or prequel trilogy sets.

For now, take it with a pinch of salt until confirmed otherwise by the LEGO Group – but potential future sets don’t come more obvious than this.

I like to think of myself as a journalist first, LEGO fan second, but we all know that’s not really the case. Journalism does run through my veins, though, like some kind of weird literary blood – the sort that will no doubt one day lead to a stress-induced heart malfunction. It’s like smoking, only worse. Thankfully, I get to write about LEGO until then.
