LEGO Super Mario 2022 sets out now, including new series of Character Packs

Six brand new LEGO Super Mario sets are now available to purchase worldwide, alongside 71402 Character Packs – Series 4.

The latest blind-bagged series takes an even deeper dive into Mario lore to bring us 10 new bite-sized characters and enemies, all of which are perfect pocket money-priced additions to a larger interactive course. Among those included in Series 4 are classic characters like Coin Coffer, Stingby and Scaredy Rat, all of whom we’ve definitely heard of before.

But whether you’re familiar with them or not, there’s no denying they’re a colourful bunch, and do exactly what they say on the packet: introduce fresh characters to the LEGO Super Mario line-up, which is pretty impressive given we’re now three years into the video game theme.

Two seaside sets are also launching today in 71398 Dorrie’s Beachfront and 71400 Big Urchin Beach Ride, as well as three products based on Nintendo spin-off series Luigi’s Mansion. If you’re picking up any of those, you’ll want to make sure 71397 Luigi’s Mansion Lab and Poltergust is among them to make the most of the new ghost-catching gameplay on offer.

I like to think of myself as a journalist first, LEGO fan second, but we all know that’s not really the case. Journalism does run through my veins, though, like some kind of weird literary blood – the sort that will no doubt one day lead to a stress-induced heart malfunction. It’s like smoking, only worse. Thankfully, I get to write about LEGO until then.
