LEGO teases 90th anniversary reveal at LEGO CON

The LEGO Group has teased an announcement related to its 90th anniversary at LEGO CON next month, which could just be the rumoured 10305 Lion King’s Castle.

At this point, the identity of the flagship 90th-anniversary set – which we already know is coming thanks to last year’s LEGO Ideas poll – is either the company’s worst-kept secret, or the subject of the most egregiously false rumours since last year’s 11,000-piece Death Star. If it’s the former, we’re apparently looking at a 4,514-piece remake of 1984’s 6080 King’s Castle.

The latest reports suggest that ambitious set will come in at $349.99 and include a whopping 20 minifigures (minus the obvious one), but for the moment, these are all still just rumours. We won’t know for sure until the LEGO Group pulls back the curtain on whatever it has planned for its 90th anniversary, which will apparently happen next month.

The official LEGO Twitter account has been building hype for its second-ever LEGO CON for the past couple of weeks, and its latest tease reveals the livestream will feature the announcement of ‘something awesome’ related to the company’s 90th anniversary.

An accompanying teaser video doesn’t give us much to go on, but we don’t have long to wait to find out exactly what the LEGO Group has up its sleeve: LEGO CON will take place on June 18 at 5pm UK time. You’ll be able to tune in over on YouTube, and/or follow along on our liveblog on the day.

I like to think of myself as a journalist first, LEGO fan second, but we all know that’s not really the case. Journalism does run through my veins, though, like some kind of weird literary blood – the sort that will no doubt one day lead to a stress-induced heart malfunction. It’s like smoking, only worse. Thankfully, I get to write about LEGO until then.

Great Work. I enjoy your up and coming sets and the way you tell us what it contains and research any already released sets. Cheers, Anthony
