Planned LEGO Technic 2022 supercar rumoured to be delayed

Rumours suggest the LEGO Group was planning to release a new Technic supercar in summer 2022 – but it’s since been delayed until next year.

StoneWars reports that online retailer electricBricks published a listing for product number 42143 earlier this week, with the codename ‘TBD Technic Ultimate Car 2022’, a piece count of 3,776 and a release date of August 2022. That would follow the LEGO Group’s biennial release pattern for Technic supercars, which began in 2016 with 42056 Porsche 911 GT3 RS.

However, the same site now claims that 42143 won’t release in August – or indeed, in 2022 at all. The set has apparently been delayed until 2023, which StoneWars speculates is likely due to a delay to the real-life car that it’s based on. There’s no suggestion of what that might be, but its part count eclipses all three previous supercars, including 42083 Bugatti Chiron and 42115 Lamborghini Sían FKP 37.

This news may also explain why the LEGO Group made a last-minute decision to postpone the retirement of 42083 Bugatti Chiron, which was originally due to leave shelves in 2021. If 42143 has indeed been delayed, it makes sense to keep a previous supercar available in the meantime.

For now, treat this story with caution, as nothing has been confirmed. But if it’s true, it’ll be interesting to see whether the LEGO Group accelerates production on a replacement model in the line-up, or just leaves Technic fans without a huge flagship set for 2022.

I like to think of myself as a journalist first, LEGO fan second, but we all know that’s not really the case. Journalism does run through my veins, though, like some kind of weird literary blood – the sort that will no doubt one day lead to a stress-induced heart malfunction. It’s like smoking, only worse. Thankfully, I get to write about LEGO until then.

I reckon they are having a product rethink based in targeting an electric hypercar Rimac Nevara, Aspark Owl or Lotus Evija. All or any of which would look sick.

My guess they will avoid Tesla cos Elon Musk, and Porsches as their EV look too similar to the petrol twins.

It’s the Telsa Cybertruck. I have seen the prototype at LEGO’s office.

I’ll tell my dad and he’s a cop.

Cybertruck is unlikely, Mega already has one.
