LEGO Technic 42083 Bugatti Chiron launch event at the LEGO House

A special launch event was held on June 1, at the LEGO House, for the launch of LEGO Technic 42083 Bugatti Chiron

To mark the launch of LEGO Technic 42083 Bugatti Chiron, a real life Bugatti Chiron was parked inside the LEGO House in Billund, Denmark. On June 1, a special unveiling event was attended by guests from the LEGO Group, Bugatti and the worldwide press.

Following dramatic, car advert style sizzles and an introduction from MC Ali Plumb, Bugatti CEO Stephan Winkelmann and the LEGO Group CEO Niels B. Christiansen took turns to highlight how important the collaboration on this 3,599 piece set was to them.

“I hope over time it will inspire a lot of children around the world just to go for building whatever they can imagine, and that’s what the LEGO Group is here about, our mission to inspire and develop the builders of tomorrow,” said Christiansen. “It’s a huge model that I can’t wait to start building myself. I’ve always been passionate about engineering and this model’s details and design are truly fascinating.”

“They have the same base idea, they express the same values. For LEGO only the best is good enough, and for Ettore Bugatti it was at that time and still is, if it is comparable then it is not Bugatti,” Winkelmann told the assembled crowd.

Once the high power pair had finished making their remarks, they headed over to a table covered by a white cloth, with only one possible thing beneath it. Pausing for dramatic effect and for cameras to be readied, they removed the cover to reveal the LEGO Technic 42083 Bugatti Chiron underneath.

A visibly excited Andy Woodman, the LEGO Technic Senior Design Manager Specialist, explained what was so special about the work that Model Designer Aurelien Rouffiange had done to capture the unique form of the Bugatti Chiron. Having the Technic model sat side by side with the real supercar only highlighted his points as he highlighted key design features.

Seeing a LEGO set get such fanfare is welcome, especially another entry in the Technic supercar line. The theme has certainly come a long way from the days of black frames, now offering appealing display models that pack in functionality while also appealing beyond the hardcore LEGO enthusiast.
