LEGO Technic 42158 NASA Mars Rover Perseverance officially revealed
The LEGO Group has officially revealed 42158 NASA Mars Rover Perseverance, a space-themed LEGO Technic set that aims to encourage kids to learn about engineering.
Although JP Spielwaren had already given us our first look at two LEGO Technic summer sets, the LEGO Group has now officially revealed 42158 NASA Mars Rover Perseverance. The STEM space-themed model comes with an upcoming app to its 1,132-piece set, with the goal of using augmented reality to teach children about engineering and the real Mars Rover’s work in outer space.
LEGO Technic 42158 NASA Mars Rover Perseverance features 360° steering, a movable arm, and fully-articulated suspension, just like its real-life counterpart. The Rover roams across Mars’ rocky surface, collecting samples from the red planet on its six wheels. Both the brick-built and NASA-built versions are also accompanied by its mission companion, the Ingenuity Helicopter.
“Working on this model has been both challenging and exciting,” said Luke Cragin, Designer at the LEGO Group. “I’ve always felt passionate about space, and the design process let me explore my interest as I recreated the incredible engineering developed by the pioneering team at NASA. We hope the model’s features and functions will help introduce young space lovers to the world of engineering and encourage them to reach for the stars in the future.”
To achieve this goal, 42158 NASA Mars Rover Perseverance has its own AR app, Technic AR. The digital experience joins with the brick-built model to encourage children to learn more about the real-life vehicle and its mission on Mars. Through the app, builders can also access an overview of the weather on Mars or learn about the environment and the Rover’s mission.
LEGO Technic 42158 NASA Mars Rover Perseverance will be available for everyone to buy for £84.99 / €89.99 / $99.99 from June 1, 2023, containing 1,132 pieces.
