More details on LEGO Collectible Minifigures line-up for 2022 – no Marvel or Mario?

More details have surfaced on the LEGO Collectible Minifigures series potentially coming our way later this year, contradicting previous rumours of a second Marvel series.

Earlier this week, reports emerged of three more Collectible Minifigures series joining 71032 Series 22 in 2022, including a follow-up to 71031 Marvel Studios, a batch anchored around the LEGO Group’s 90th anniversary, and a six-minifigure series that may or may not have something to do with Super Mario.

All those purported series have now been dismissed by Instagram user 1414falconfan, who claims that online retailer electricBricks has published listings for product numbers 71033 through 71036 – and they’ve got nothing to do with Marvel, Mario or the 90th anniversary. Instead, 71033 is apparently (as originally rumoured) based on The Muppets, while 71034 is supposedly Series 23.

We haven’t seen two in-house Collectible Minifigures series in one year since 2016, when 71011 Series 15 and 71013 Series 16 both landed on shelves within 12 months of one another. From 2017 onwards, the LEGO Group has settled into a consistent formula of one in-house series (aligning with its year of release – so Series 19 in 2019, and so on), alongside two licensed series.

If this year’s third batch of blind-bagged characters is indeed 71034 Series 23, it could yet be tied to the LEGO Group’s 90th anniversary after all, explaining why it’s coming in place of an expected second licensed series. According to 1414falconfan, it’s due to arrive on shelves on September 1, 2022 – and given the LEGO Group’s 90th anniversary is August 10, the timing does make sense.

71035 and 71036, meanwhile, are supposedly six-pack versions of 71033 The Muppets and 71034 Series 23, following in the footsteps of 66657 Series 21 – 6 Pack, 66667 Looney Tunes – 6 Pack and 66678 Marvel Studios – 6 Pack. Why the LEGO Group would pivot its product numbering to fill slots traditionally taken by full series is less clear, but stranger things have happened.

None of these reports are confirmed at the moment, as we’ve been unable to locate the same listings on electricBricks. They may have been removed since 1414falconfan’s post, but if they did indeed exist, they paint a very different picture of 2022’s LEGO Collectible Minifigures line-up.

For now, you can pick up 71032 Series 22 in stores and online at LEGO.com. Check out our review here, and consider supporting the work that Brick Fanatics does by ordering your Collectible Minifigures using our affiliate links. Thank you!

I like to think of myself as a journalist first, LEGO fan second, but we all know that’s not really the case. Journalism does run through my veins, though, like some kind of weird literary blood – the sort that will no doubt one day lead to a stress-induced heart malfunction. It’s like smoking, only worse. Thankfully, I get to write about LEGO until then.

71036 Option no. 2, (Cartoon Network) would totally make sense, given that it is the brand’s 30th anniversary in October of this year.

71034 would supposedly be Lego CMF Disney Series 3
71035 is Lego CMF Dr. Seuss
71036 should be either Lego CMF Tom & Jerry, Cartoon Network, Nickelodeon, or Mascots (i.e., Ronald McDonald).
