More details on LEGO 80103 Dragon Boat Race

Following last week’s first look at the next LEGO Chinese Spring Festival set, we’ve now got word of the pricing and availability for 80103 Dragon Boat Race.

According to PromoBricks, the set will go on sale in Taiwan on May 3, 2019, for a price of NT$1,899 (around £48/€55/USD$62). It’s the third set in the Asia-exclusive series, following on from 80101 Chinese New Year’s Eve Dinner and 80102 Dragon Dance, which both arrived in January to celebrate Chinese New Year.

The first images of 80103 Dragon Boat Race arrived courtesy of Macau-based online retailer Digibee, which is currently taking pre-orders for the set. It contains two dragon boats, a grandstand, podium and 15 minifigures, including two full rowing teams. Unfortunately, just like its two predecessors, you’ll have a hard time finding it outside of the Asia-Pacific region, which is a shame for such a beautiful set.

“As a mission-driven business, we are committed to inspiring and developing children through creative play and learning. We are excited to announce these major launches for China at the CIIE, and our commitment to this strategic growth market and goals to provide the creative LEGO play experience to the hands of more Chinese children remain unchanged,” said CEO Niels B. Christiansen when the theme was first announced.

I like to think of myself as a journalist first, LEGO fan second, but we all know that’s not really the case. Journalism does run through my veins, though, like some kind of weird literary blood – the sort that will no doubt one day lead to a stress-induced heart malfunction. It’s like smoking, only worse. Thankfully, I get to write about LEGO until then.
