Exclusive 42143 LEGO Technic Ferrari Rewards are a little underwhelming

Fans of wallpaper will be delighted by the LEGO Technic Ferrari Daytona SP3 giveaways, everybody else, not so much.

When the new LEGO Technic Ferrari Daytona SP3 was revealed, one interesting aspect was a unique printed tile which fits into the front storage compartment (Front boot?  Froot?). This would seemingly give access to some ‘exclusive owner rewards’ via the LEGO.com Rewards Centre and we thought we’d take a look and see what they turned out to be.

Safe to say that expectations for this sort of thing are usually on the low side, but given that the release of 10295 Porsche 911 was accompanied by 37-minute video hosted by motoring journalist, Ginny Buckley, maybe the Lego Group has raised their game a little. In the video, Buckley was talking to set designer, Mike Psiaki, Porsche exterior designer Fabian Schmölz, and Jörg Thilow of the Porsche Heritage and Museum about the set and the history of the car itself, which dates all the way back to 1964. As an extra for people interested in both LEGO and Porsche, it was definitely a nice-to-have.

So would we get something equally interesting to accompany the Daytona SP3? Sadly not. You get 22 downloadable wallpapers in a variety of sizes, a blueprint and a ‘Certificate of Ownership’, none of which is likely to set the pulse of the average petrolhead racing. To be fair, these are freebies, and they don’t detract in any way from what is a superb set. We were very impressed and you can read our review of it here.  However, with a big thing being made of the new LEGO Technic Ultimate series which the Ferrari joins, alongside 42056 Porsche 911 GT3 RS, 42083 Bugatti Chiron and 42115 Lamborghini Sián FKP 37, we’d hoped for something a little more exciting.
