New director for LEGO movie The Billion Brick Race

Jorge Gutierrez has taken over as director of the upcoming LEGO movie, The Billion Brick Race.

The Hollywood Reporter has broken the news that The Billion Brick Race, originally set to be directed by Jason Segel and Drew Pearce, will now be helmed by Jorge Gutierrez. He is best known for The Book of Life and TV series El Tigre: The Adventures of Manny Rivera.

Gutierrez has been brought on to help develop the project and direct, which was originally expected in 2019 until The LEGO Movie Sequel was delayed to February 8, 2019. The behind the scenes team maintains the same names who have been involved with the LEGO movie franchise so far, with Dan Lin, Phil Lord, Chris Miller and Roy Lee producing.  Chris McKay and Jill Wilfert will serve as Executive Producers.

The news follows a change in director on The LEGO Movie Sequel, which saw Mike Mitchell replace Rob Schrab, after a re-write was delivered by Raphael Bob-Waksberg.

The LEGO NINJAGO Movie is due for release on September 22 in the USA and October 13 in the UK.
