New LEGO Marvel sets just precede premiere of Marvel Studios’ What If…?

The release date for Marvel Studios’ animated series What If…? is now confirmed, coming just after the release of the two confirmed sets related to the show.

What If…? will make its debut on August 11, streaming on Disney+. Following in Loki’s shoes, the animated series will have new weekly episodes each Wednesday.

This means that the show will premiere a full ten days after the release of two LEGO models based on the new Marvel Studios creation: 76201 Captain Carter & The Hydra Stomper and 76194 Tony Stark’s Sakaarian Iron Man. Both sets are available to buy from August 1, alongside other LEGO Marvel new releases, such as the recently revealed 76200 Bro Thor’s New Asgard, so you can get to know some of the new characters before seeing them on your screens.

What If…? will explore alternative realities for many of our favourite Marvel characters, some of which are already hinted at in these new sets. For example, 76194 Tony Stark’s Sakaarian Iron Man indicates that it will be Iron Man meeting the Grandmaster on Sakaar, rather than Thor and the Hulk.

At the same time, the appearance of Captain Carter in a suit a là Captain America alongside a very average looking Steve Rogers in 76201 Captain Carter & The Hydra Stomper shows another key difference from the traditional timeline of the MCU.

Retail prices for the two sets are not yet confirmed, but rest assured we’ll update you as soon as we know. This is unlikely to be the end of LEGO products inspired by the new show, with rumours of collectible minifigures based on the animated series. Plus, stay tuned for our thoughts on 76201 Captain Carter & The Hydra Stomper in more detail in a review later this month.
