New York Toy Fair 2022 has been officially cancelled

The upcoming New York Toy Fair 2022 has had to be officially cancelled by its organisers due to the current pandemic situation.

Originally scheduled to take place from February 19-22, the annual industry event held in New York has now been cancelled. The move comes during rising cases during the latest pandemic and is seen as a responsible decision by its organisers.

A statement released today by The Toy Association announced the official cancellation of New York Toy Fair 2022, following a similar decision last year. The event is one of the main toy industry events where the LEGO Group showcases new products to trade and fans alike.

“Key to our efforts these past two weeks has been the balance of some 700 remaining committed toy manufacturers saying they need and want Toy Fair 2022 to build their businesses,” said Steve Pasierb, President & CEO of The Toy Association, “weighing that against those departing and seriously on the fence, and needing to provide a sufficient quantity and quality across the retail buying community necessary to deliver a positive experience.”

Whether New York Toy Fair will return in 2023 is not yet known, but Pasierb concluded by saying: “Delivering a best-in-class next Toy Fair for all the varied audiences it serves so well is now our focus.”

2022 Nuremberg International Toy Fair is still currently set for February 2-6, with the LEGO Group usually in attendance, although the event was cancelled last year. We’ll have more updates on the event if and when it goes ahead next month.
