Only one theme on LEGO.com gets five stars across the board

LEGO fans love to rate sets on the official website, but only one range gets five stars for each and every set in the theme.

Reviews. They are a part of modern life. Want to buy something? Check out what other people think first. Any product with a batch of one star reviews is likely to be dismissed like an out of fashion cabinet minister, but a full set of five star reviews? Tell me more.

The official LEGO website is no different, and each set that is available has been rated by fans.  Most themes do pretty well, with just a few models drawing the ire of fans. Sometimes it’s a cost thing, sometimes it’s a less-than-perfect design (did someone say Hulkbuster?), but for the most part the LEGO designers get it right.

Looking across the themes, the overall ratings are pretty good, with just the odd set here or there dropping a star or two. But there’s one theme that has a perfect score. Fair enough, there are only three sets in the range, but each set scores a perfect five out of five, something no other theme can claim.

So what is it? The all-conquering Star Wars? The mighty Marvel? The magical Harry Potter? It’s none of these. Slipping in under the radar, it’s Disney and Pixar’s Lightyear.

Consisting of just three sets, the theme is small but perfectly formed. And, if we may say, reasonably priced, which can only work in its favour. 76830 Zyclops Chase is a neat little set with two minifigures, Buzz Lightyear and Izzy Hawthorne, facing off against one of Zurg’s Zyclops robots. At £17.99 it’s a bargain. Meanwhile, 76831 Zurg Battle sees Buzz and co taking on the Evil Emperor himself, in all his purpleness. Again, a fair price at less than £30.

And lastly, the highlight of the theme, 76832 XL-15 Spaceship. At £44.99 this could be the kid brother to 10497 Galaxy Explorer. It’s a classic spaceship design, and we liked it a lot, as you can see in our review. Each set in the range gets a perfect score from the harshest of critics – the fans who hand over their (or their parents’) hard-earned cash for these sets.

So while the bigger themes may grab the headlines, it’s sometimes the small ones that get it right.
