Retiring LEGO Ideas set returns to the online store

Just as it prepares to sail off into the sunset for good, LEGO Ideas 21322 Pirates of Barracuda Bay has returned to LEGO.com in the UK and Europe.

It’s been out of stock on this side of the pond for over a month, but the 2,545-piece set is finally available to order again for £179.99 / €199.99. (It’s currently on back order in the US, where it can be purchased for $199.99.) Given how long it was missing in action until now, though, there’s no guaranteeing it’ll stick around for any decent length of time.

That means you’ll probably want to act fast if 21322 Pirates of Barracuda Bay is still on your wish list, particularly as it’s currently due to retire by the end of 2021. Originally destined to head for Davy Jones’ locker in 2022, the LEGO Group has seemingly pulled forward its exit date to December this year, which means we’re rapidly running out of time to pick it up.

The LEGO Group’s retirement dates are always in flux, of course – and that means 21322 Pirates of Barracuda Bay could yet survive into next year. If its unavailability throughout almost the entirety of August is any indication, it definitely seems popular enough to warrant it.

I like to think of myself as a journalist first, LEGO fan second, but we all know that’s not really the case. Journalism does run through my veins, though, like some kind of weird literary blood – the sort that will no doubt one day lead to a stress-induced heart malfunction. It’s like smoking, only worse. Thankfully, I get to write about LEGO until then.
