One rumoured Marvel hero was barely considered for Doctor Strange sequel

One rumoured hero for Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness was barely considered for the film, and only after reports started circulating.

Before the Doctor Strange sequel was released in cinemas, rumours for the appearance of an Iron Man multiversal variant played by Tom Cruise appeared online. Now that it’s in cinemas worldwide, we know that this isn’t the case. However, in an interview with Rolling Stone, screenwriter Michael Waldron revealed that the appearance of these false reports inspired him to introduce the idea of bringing the actor into the movie to Kevin Fiege, president of Marvel Studios.

“I mean, there’s no cut footage of Tom Cruise,” shared Michael in the interview. “But I love Tom Cruise, and I said to Kevin at one point, could we get Tom Cruise’s Iron Man?”

Unfortunately, that idea went no further as the interview details that Tom Cruise simply didn’t have the time to fill in the role. While these rumours were ultimately false, it’s still interesting to know that they may have inspired the inclusion of an Iron Man variant in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness had schedules not been an issue.

This is also interesting to know following older reports for the rumoured Sanctum Sanctorum set which suggested that Iron Man might have been part of the model, leading some to believe that this could be the Tom Cruise variant. However, that would never have been the case as we now know from this interview.

More recent reports for the unconfirmed model suggest that a potential Iron Man minifigure might be a way for the build to cover more than one Marvel Cinematic Universe movie, offering a reminder that all rumours should be taken with a pinch of salt, as they might be false or otherwise inaccurate.

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is available to watch now in cinemas. Only one model has been released for the movie, but 76205 Gargantos Showdown does include an exclusive array of minifigures including the only LEGO America Chavez.
