The many scales of the LEGO Star Wars X-wing Starfighter

The X-wing Starfighter has been built in many scales throughout LEGO Star Wars and with another coming, we’re taking a look at past models.

The LEGO Star Wars Diorama Collection includes the latest microscale X-wing Starfighter in 75329 Death Star Trench Run Diorama, but this is far from the first depiction of the iconic craft as the ship has been depicted in many scales in the history of LEGO Star Wars.

As we await the launch of the LEGO Star Wars Diorama Collection next month, let’s take a look at the various sizes of previous LEGO X-wing Starfighters, from smallest to biggest.

5 – Microscale

With magazine gifts, Advent calendars, models and more, there are quite a few microscale LEGO X-wing Starfighters, but we’ll focus on the upcoming build in 75329 Death Star Trench Run Diorama.

As the most recent of the smaller ships, it includes more detail than previous iterations thanks in part to the printed tile representing the dome of R2-D2. While it’s far too small to sit a minifigure, it’s still recognisable as an X-wing Starfighter.

4 – Microfighter

The Microfighters represent Star Wars ships at a size that can fit minifigures but have oversized elements that give them a cuter look. The X-wing Starfighter has received multiple models in this subtheme, but 75032 X-wing Fighter Microfighter depicted the spacecraft in its Original Trilogy appearance.

Like the build in 75329 Death Star Trench Run Diorama, it too can be recognised as an X-wing Starfighter thanks to the classic shape of the unfolded wings.

3 – 4+ scale

Designed to be easier for younger hands to build, between Microfighters and minifigure-scale X-wing Starfighters is the 4+ scale ship seen in 75235 X-wing Starfighter Trench Run.

While not as detailed as later entries in this lift, it includes the folding function for the wings and a simple model that manages to represent the spaceship, but with an open cockpit that gives it a convertible-adjacent design.

2 – Minifigure scale

This is likely the scale of LEGO X-wing Starfighters that most people will be familiar with as several minifigure-scale versions of the ship have been released since the launch of LEGO Star Wars. The most recent is 75301 Luke Skywalker’s X-Wing Fighter, which is available now on the official online store.

With an exclusive minifigure of General Dodonna, space for a character inside the ship and a space for R2-D2, this size of LEGO X-wing Starfighter is one of the most common in the theme.

1 – Ultimate Collector Series

Beating most other LEGO X-Wing Starfighters when it comes to size is 10240 Red Five X-wing Starfighter, an Ultimate Collector Series version of the craft that takes every detail of the ship and gives it an appropriate amount of detail to the massive scale.

One notable difference other than the size between UCS X-wing Starfighters and other versions of the ship is the cockpit, which features a detailed interior that is easier to represent with a set of this scale.
