Six new LEGO Speed Champions sets rumoured for 2021

LEGO Speed Champions has been curiously absent so far in 2021, but rumour has it that the racing theme will return in summer with six new sets.

Promobricks has listed specific details on five of those sets, giving us a clear picture of what to expect from the highly-anticipated 2021 wave of Speed Champions products. And just like last year, we’re looking at three individual vehicles and two pairs of cars.

The majority of them are also based on brands we’ve seen in LEGO before, but the first two models will reportedly introduce two brand new licences to Speed Champions. 76900 Koenigsegg Jesko and 76901 Toyota GR Supra are said to cost €19.99 apiece, in line with last year’s eight-wide cars, and will apparently come in white and yellow respectively.

76902 McLaren Elva is probably less of a surprise given the same car popped up in a Speed Champions polybag earlier this year, but it’s still good to know a larger, 263-piece version is supposedly in the works. The €19.99 set rounds out the trio of single cars for 2021’s line-up, matching the number we saw in 2020.

Both double packs will apparently also continue a trend set by previous Speed Champions sets, combining modern and classic vehicles in a single package. According to Promobricks, 76903 Chevrolet Corvette C8-R & 1968 Chevrolet Corvette C3 will contain 512 parts for €39.99, with the classic Chevy coming in red.

76904 Mopar Dodge/SRT Top Fuel Dragster & 1970 Dodge Challenger will then mix things up with a groovy purple hue for the retro ride, coming in at 627 pieces for €59.99. All these sets are rumoured to release in June 2021, but that doesn’t mean Speed Champions will be completely done for the year.

In fact, a mystery sixth set is also thought to be launching later in the summer, though very little is known about it at the moment. Promobricks says it will likely retail for $49.99, which suggests we could be looking at another two-pack, but we’ll have to wait and see on that one – just as we will with the rest of the range, which is still only a rumour at this stage.

I like to think of myself as a journalist first, LEGO fan second, but we all know that’s not really the case. Journalism does run through my veins, though, like some kind of weird literary blood – the sort that will no doubt one day lead to a stress-induced heart malfunction. It’s like smoking, only worse. Thankfully, I get to write about LEGO until then.
