Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse employed LEGO animators

There’s a LEGO universe in Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse and reportedly, it was animated by a familiar artist – one of multiple in the film.

Note that this article will feature spoilers for Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, which is in cinemas worldwide now.

As revealed in an interview shortly before release, there’s a LEGO universe in Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, labelled Earth-131222. Those who have seen the film might have recognised the animation style as the stop-motion style animation is similar to that of The LEGO Movie and familiar trailer recreations

The animator behind the Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse trailer recreations claims to have animated part of the film and reportedly, it’s the LEGO scene. It’s not unbelievable considering the skill they’ve showcased previously.

Another animator behind a Spider-Verse LEGO crossover animation from 2021 has also revealed that they worked on the sequel, though exactly what they worked on is unknown.

These reveals come not long after The LEGO Movie co-director and Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse co-writer Phil Lord admitted to regretting not animating the entirety of the sequel in a LEGO stop-motion style.

While there’s no theatrical LEGO Spider-Man movie at the time of writing, there’s evidently potential for one following the brick-built cameo in Spider-Man Across the Spider-Verse.

LEGO has been a part of my life ever since I was young. It all started when my brother passed down 7657 AT-ST to me. It’s guided me through my early years, through school and eventually through my degree in journalism. I still have all my collection proudly on display, including my many NINJAGO sets, my favourite of all the LEGO Group’s themes. Outside of Brick Fanatics I am an avid gamer and enjoy a good game of Dungeons & Dragons.
