Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse villain revealed

Sony Pictures Animation has revealed a first look at the main villain set to appear in next year’s Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse.

The first of two sequels to 2018’s animated hit, Spider-Man: Into the Spider-verse, is due to arrive next year. Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse will be swinging onto cinema screens on June, 2023, followed by Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse on March 29, 2024.

The first movie featured a number of characters from across the Marvel multiverse teaming up with Miles Morales, but the sequels look set to push that even further. It’s already been confirmed that upwards of 240 characters will appear across the next two films, so we can probably expect many obscure faces from all corners of the Marvel Comics multiverse to make an appearance.

One such character that has been confirmed for the sequels (and revealed in a tweet from the movie’s official Twitter account) is The Spot. At the recent Annecy International Animation Film Festival 2022, the film’s creators revealed that The Spot would be the main villain (at least in the first of the two sequels) and will be voiced by Jason Schwartzman.

For those of you who aren’t aware, The Spot’s whole white body is covered in black dots that are in fact interdimensional portals. He can throw these spots and jump through them, launch them at enemies and transport people and objects across dimensions. In Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse each dot will apparently be ‘living ink’ drawn by different artists and The Spot’s look will also morph and change throughout the film.

This year’s LEGO CON is set to feature a new Marvel set reveal, with a previous teaser suggesting the rumoured Sanctum Sanctorum model may arriving soon. There’s been no confirmation from the LEGO Group regarding any such set to date, so do treat this information as speculation for now.
