Star Wars Forces of Destiny perfect for LEGO

Disney and Lucasfilm have announced a new female-focused initiative titled Star Wars Forces of Destiny, something that just seems perfect for the LEGO Group…

In the list of ‘I hope the LEGO Group get involved’ initiatives, we can add today’s announced animated mini-series, which will feature two-to-three-minute shorts focused around some of the leading ladies from the Star Wars franchise.

Princess Leia, Rey, Ahsoka Tano, Jyn Erso, Sabine Wren and Maz Kanata are among those who will appear in ‘true-to-Star-Wars-canon’ short stories, with the likes of Daisy Ridley, Felicity Jones, Tiya Sircar and Ashley Eckstein and Lupita Nyong’o reprising their roles.

“Star Wars Forces of Destiny is for anyone who has been inspired by Leia’s heroism, Rey’s courage, or Ahsoka’s tenacity,” president of Lucasfilm Kathleen Kennedy says. “We’re thrilled that so many of the original actors are reprising their roles in these shorts which capture the small moments and everyday decisions that shape who these characters are. It is a fun new way for people to experience Star Wars.”

Consciously placing female leads at the centre of these stories, Disney are matching the series with a number of tie-in products, including books and ‘Adventure Figures’ – Hasbro’s attempt at blending action figures and dolls.

There’s no hint that the LEGO Group are tied into this project, but with the success of Friends (in spite of, or perhaps because of those mini-dolls), this is one that I hope they are going to end up involved in.

Mini-dolls may not be for everyone, but Star Wars mini-dolls could prove another matter, whilst smaller Star Wars-themed sets based around the animated series (which will air on YouTube!) could be pretty cool. Either way, I’m not looking at this announcement without the slight regret that LEGO sets aren’t already confirmed for it. What do you guys think?
