The brick-built history of LEGO grand pianos

Few instruments have received as many LEGO iterations as the grand piano, and 21334 Jazz Quartet adds another version to the growing list.

With the upcoming release of 21334 Jazz Quartet on July 1, LEGO Ideas has added its second grand piano build to the ever-expanding range of brick-built instruments, of which the grand piano has many spots.

Here are most of the LEGO grand pianos that have been released in various sizes across multiple themes, though we’ve only included those that fully captures the iconic shape of the instrument.

9 – 3932 Andrea’s Stage

Launching in 2012, 3932 Andrea’s Stage from LEGO friends included a grand piano scaled to mini-dolls with only a few details, and a closed top, though it does include the recognisable curve. This would eventually become just one of many brick-built grand pianos throughout the history of LEGO Friends.

8 – 41101 Heartlake Grand Hotel

Next in 2015, another version was released in 41101 Heartlake Grand Hotel, expanding on the 2012 build with an open top and hammers, demonstrating the inner functions of the instrument.

7 – 70922 The Joker Manor

Another grand piano was included in one of the biggest LEGO Batman Movie models – 70922 The Joker Manor. This version also included an open top as well as a piece of sheet music ready to be played.

6 – 75981 Harry Potter Advent Calendar

Though it was smaller, the 2020 LEGO Harry Potter advent calendar included a miniature grand piano build that still managed to capture the curves of the instrument.

5 – 21323 Grand Piano

There’s no prize for guessing that this LEGO Ideas set would be included on this list as 21323 Grand Piano is the most detailed brick-built depiction of the instrument by far, with working keys and interior functions, as well as Powered Up compatibility.

4 – 43197 The Ice Castle

The largest LEGO frozen set also includes a small grand piano build, depicted entirely in white but still with the the curve and open top that makes it recognisable as a grand piano.

3 – 41684 Heartlake City Grand Hotel

Following the last Heartlake City Grand Hotel model, the 2021 build once again included a grand piano, though at a much smaller size. For what it lacked in scale though, it makes up for in the addition of the foot pedals at the bottom of the model.

2 – 76407 The Shrieking Shack & Whomping Willow

On the top floor of the new LEGO Harry PotterShrieking shack, a grand piano can be found, in case any of Remus Lupin fancies a bit of music while he stays at the abandoned home.

1 – 21334 Jazz Quartet

The newest set on this list is 21334 Jazz Quartet of LEGO Ideas, including the newest version of a grand piano and the second-biggest behind 21323 Grand Piano. A golden gate is used inside the instrument for additional detail, and it features foot pedals too.
