This LEGO Star Wars Mandalorian minifigure inspired a new piece

A new interview has revealed that an upcoming LEGO Star Wars: The Mandalorian minifigure was the inspiration for a new type of armour piece made for a challenging, but common design.

A discussion with LEGO designers Jan Neergaard Olesen and Madison Andrew O’Neil on the official Star Wars website has revealed that the new armour brick featured in 75319 The Armorer’s Mandalorian Forge was inspired by Pza Vizla’s live-action body frame. As noted in our review, the element helps to add some size to minifigures whose characters are a little larger than others.

“I believe one of the most challenging aspects of creating this set was designing the character Paz Vizsla. He’s such a cool looking character and this was an ideal set to be able to include him in, but his overall size and unique armour shape posed some problems,” explained Madison Andrew O’Neil.

“One of the most important things we needed to do was to make him look bigger — give him a bigger silhouette. For that, we decided to make a brand-new armour piece that we can use for any “big brute” type characters.”

The creation of this element is already proving to be worthwhile with it featuring in not one, but two new Star Wars sets. As well as being worn by Paz Vizsla in 75319 The Armorer’s Mandalorian Forge, Wrecker also equips it in 75314 The Bad Batch Attack Shuttle as another suitably bulky character. You can find out more about the latter in our in-depth review.

LEGO Star Wars 75319 The Armorer’s Mandalorian Forge will release on September 1 for £27.99 / $29.99 / €29.99, with minifigures for Din Djarin, Paz Vizsla and the titular Armorer.
