Marvel Studios’ Thunderbolts rumoured to be led by Black Widow character

Yelena Bolova is rumoured to be leading the Thunderbolts in their upcoming Marvel Studios movie after being reported as a member of the team.

Officially announced after earlier reports at San Diego Comic-Con 2022, Thunderbolts is coming on July 26, 2024, as a new film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. In the comics, the team is made up of antiheroes and reformed supervillains. Rumours suggest that the MCU lineup could include Baron Zemo, Yelena Belova, Ghost, Taskmaster, the Abomination, US Agent, the Winter Soldier and General Thaddeus Ross

First appearing in Black Widow, then later in Hawkeye following the events of the film, Yelena Bolova is rumoured to be leading the team according to Deadline writer Justin Kroll on The Town podcast. Yelena Bolova has a minifigure thanks to the only Black Widow set – 76162 Black Widow’s Helicopter Chase.

“Florence Pugh has got the Marvel superhero that’s already got a spin-off. Upcoming for her, actually, on that character is this Thunderbolts film, which is basically Marvel’s Suicide Squad. Hopefully, it has better results. But the concept is it’d be her leading the team of like Wyatt Russell’s John Walker, Daniel Bruhl’s Zemo, those anti-heroes that aren’t exactly good but aren’t exactly bad. So there’s that. And people seem to like the Yelena character.”

Just like LEGO rumours, this has not been confirmed by Marvel Studios and should be taken with some caution, though Thunderbolts is at least confirmed to be on the way in 2024. With the D23 Expo 2022 approaching with Marvel Studios news, we may see this report be confirmed soon.
