Toys R Us set to re-open in Australia
Hobby Warehouse plans to re-open Toys R Us as a retailer in Australia.
Since Toys R Us closed in many countries last year, various comeback stories have floated around. Now, it seems that the familiar LEGO retailer will be back in Australia. Toy World reports that Hobby Warehouse has made a deal with the US company that owns the Toys R Us brand, Tru Kids, to resurrect the chain.
When Toys R Us went into liquidation in Australia, 44 stores closed. The new offering is expected to be significantly different, with an online offering to begin with.
“Our mission is to encourage children to engage with as many forms of play as we possibly can. Hobby Warehouse is a digital native with a keen understanding of how to accelerate and match the requirements of the modern shopper,” said Hobby Warehouse Chief Executive Louis Mittoni.
An advert has launched to promote the returning brand, demonstrating Hobby Warehouse’s confidence in the move.
Recent reports suggest that Toys R Us might also be making a comeback in the USA, the country where the retailer originated.
