Toys R Us UK increases clearance discounts to up to 50% off

Toys R Us in the UK has increased the discount available on select lines to 50% off the original price, with reduction on LEGO remaining at 15%.

All of the UK based Toys R Us stores are expected to close within the next few weeks, with the retailer using discounts of between 15% and 50% to sell off the remaining stock.

Those looking for cheap LEGO sets will still only be able to save 15% off the original price, while those in the market for Christmas items will get 50% off the original price. The full list of discounts, confirming which percentage applies to which product category, can be found at the Toys R Us website.

Toys R Us has proven beyond saving despite efforts being made over the past six months to keep the chain going. A rescue package confirmed last October involved closing a quarter of the retailer’s UK stores, but the company did not trade well enough over Christmas to meet VAT obligations. Over 3,000 jobs will be lost when the retailer closes.

In the USA, the LEGO Group is objecting to the company’s plans to liquidate stock.
