Turn LEGO 70608 Master Falls into classic Indiana Jones scene

If you don’t feel enamoured by The LEGO NINJAGO Movie 70608 Master Falls, there may still be value to be found in the set – after all, Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom features a very memorable rope bridge scene…

Anyone who read my review of set 70608 Master Falls will recall that my conclusion was, although a well executed set, it felt a bit orphaned without 70617 The Temple of The Ultimate Ultimate Weapon. Standing alongside other sets based on the film, Master Falls sticks out as being very different. A lone bridge, especially one with no context, does not make for the most exciting playset.

There is a scene in which such a bridge is a lot more exciting – namely the end of Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom, when the acquirer of antiquities and his crew escape from Mola Ram by wrecking such a bridge. It turns out, with a bit of additional elevation paired with strategic demolition, that 70608 Master Falls can fill a gap left by the LEGO Group in a different theme.

Master Falls Conversion-2

Constructing this conversion almost pushed me to go out and buy a second copy of 70608 Master Falls as it would work even better with a longer bridge, and I did not have any of the tread pieces in the correct colour stashed in my parts bins. But just by adding some height, which can easily be done using some big pre-moulded rock pieces, helps set the scene. Throw in some water and alligators and you have everything you need for re-creating shots from the iconic film scene.

Creating this scene made me feel that perhaps I was a bit too harsh on The LEGO NINJAGO Movie 70608 Master Falls. While the set may be somewhat boring from a play perspective, it is a top notch suspension bridge. Ready adaptability to every scene I wanted to shoot was largely facilitated by the holes in the tread pieces that make up the walkway of the bridge. These could be used to secure a figure with a peg both when upright and collapsed but even better, by removing a hand temporarily, poking the arm through and then re-attaching, figures can be securely posed when the bridge was vertical.

I would love to do this scene in more grand form with a longer bridge and the proper minifigures. Alas, the very short lived Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom sets never made it into my collection so I lack all the proper figures aside from Indy. Maybe when I complete the other 16 projects I have going…
